NZMRC- Sutherland Stays in the Lead
YACHTING DEVELOPMENTS NEW ZEALAND MATCH RACING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016

Sutherland and Meech hold the top two spots as the top 16 head into the super 16 match racing stage.
Olympic medallist lazer sailor, Meech added two more wins to his scoreboard this morning winning both Pool A races to take him into 2nd place overall. The French team helmed by Alan Quere grabbed two second places and qualify for the next round 7th overall. David Wood and his team took two third places to qualify 9th overall.
In Pool B Sutherland continued his winning streak with a first and a second. Following him was Australian Dave Chapman with a first and a third and sitting in third was RNZYS YTP skipper George Anyon.
The overall fleet racing results see Sutherland sitting comfortably in first, Meech in second followed by Chapman in third plus the remaining top ten skippers will all advance into tomorrow’s Super Sixteen series.
The six teams sitting in places 14-19 raced in this afternoon’s repecharge match racing round for the final 3 spots. With two wins out of three each the following 3 skippers qualified to the Super 16, Patrick Haybittle (RNZYS Youth Training Programme), Erica Dawson (Murrays Bay Sailing Club | YNZ AON Fast track Team) and Fransisco Kayrouz (Kristin School).
This completes the fleet racing stages of the regatta and tomorrow beings the Match Racing Super 16.
The top 8 ranked skippers selected their opponents at tonights briefing and tomorrow line up is as follows;
Sutherland v Dawson
Meech v Kayrouz
Chapman v Dair
Hughes v Hielkema
Walker v Haybittle
Steele v Marsh
Quere v Wood
Koo v Anyon
First to win two races will qualify into the Quarter Finals (top 8).
Race management is looking forward to getting into the America’s Cup style racing and the challenge of a new racing format. This new schedule will also be a challenge for the competitors.
