2017 Trillian Trust Classic Yacht Regatta

It was a beautiful start to the 2017 regatta with 25 of Auckland’s oldest and prettiest yachts taking to the Harbour.

The regatta began yesterday with an afternoon harbour race. Conditions were frustratingly light. The fleet prevailed to complete the first race of the regatta.

Today there were two races completed in the outer harbour. The first race began in light conditions but the breeze picked up as the day went on.

The first race started at 10am near Browns Island and all 25 yachts completed it by approximately 1400hrs. The race committee, led by Stewart Heine and his team, then quickly moved onto the next race.

After today’s racing each division has established their front runners.

Classic A Bermudan division saw Katrina II move to the front of the group, while Classic B Bermudan division is led by Aramoana. For the Gaffs, Ngatira and Frances are sitting in first in their respective divisions. The Modern Classics saw Innismara take the lead in the A division. Skipper Paige Cook said “it’s been a great regatta, we managed to sail well around the course and are really looking forward to tomorrow!”. In the B division for Modern Classics Nocturne is in first place.

Race Officer Stewart Heine and his team were extremely pleased with the day’s results saying that “it was wonderful to see all the old boats out and in action. We’re looking forward to tomorrow and hoping that the weather is as good as it was today!”

Tomorrow will see the final race held in the Waitemata harbour. The fleets will start racing off the RNZYS at 11am so make sure you get down to the Members Bar for prime viewing of these beautiful boats racing.
