Squadron Ladies Fishing Day a real hit!
The annual Squadron Ladies Fishing Day was a real hit on what was a beautiful day for fishing on the Hauraki Gulf.
Three teams of Ladies descended on the Squadron Members Bar for breakfast at 730am, before heading out onto the water at 830am for a days fishing!
The boundaries were set with teams not allowed to go any further north than the areas between Browns Bay, Rakino Island and the Motuihe Channel. Competition categories were simple: Largest Snapper, Closest to the Average, largest other species and the best photo’s of the day.
All three teams had a fantastic day out on the water and caught a healthy number of fish, but due to the fact that you just needed to photograph the fish on a measureboard (rather than bringing it home), it meant all teams were able to release more fish than they kept. One highlight of the day was a large pod of common dolphins that joined us near Rakino Island – how good is our Hauraki Gulf in the summer?!
With the photo’s that were coming back from the boats it was very clear to see the ladies were having a great time on the water, which was further backed up by the ladies themselves at Prizegiving.
Judi Dooling was the big winner with a 55cm Snapper, the largest caught on the day. Michelle Bush took home the closest to average prize for her 38cm Snapper, and Michelle Henderson won the largest other species category with her 55cm Kahawai.
We would like to thank all ladies who took part, and our sponsors for the day GoFuel, Burnsco Marine, Stoneleigh Wines, One Pure and Optimum Plumbing + a special mention to the great Charity Look Good Feel Better who provided some awesome silent auction items to raise money for their fantastic cause.
We look forward to seeing all the ladies back next year for a other great day of fishing – and if you didn’t make it this year, make sure you do next for next years event!
