Three Squadron youth teams compete at the NZ Youth Match Racing National Championships

1 October 2010, The Wellington Spirit Yacht Racing team, consisting of Josh Junior, Matthew Steven and Chris Jones, have been crowned the 2010 New Zealand Youth Match Racing National Champions. Junior and team sailed a flawless regatta winning every match they sailed over the past four days to take out the title on Wellington Harbour.
'We are really pleased to win the championship this year and bring the trophy back to Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club' said Junior after racing on Tuesday. 'This is our last year in the youth category so we are really happy to come out of the regatta with a win as we now aim at stepping up into the senior ranks'

With racing blown out on day 2.....

With racing blown out on day two and with a forecast for strong winds on day four the race committee did a great job of completing the two full round robins, semis and finals. Wellingtonians were treated to some spectacular action with racing in strong winds taking place literally metres from Wellington's popular waterfront park.
Taking out second place in the regatta was the Full Metal Jacket Racing team consisting of William Tiller, Jono Spurdle and Chris Staub. This team were fresh from a victory in the Governors Cup in America and from competing in the Danish round of the World Match Racing Tour.
Racing in the finals between Tiller and his Full Metal Jacket team and Junior and his Wellington Spirit team was tight and close. In the end Wellington Spirit held their composure to win the finals 2-0 before increasing wind forced the end to the regatta.
The sail off for third and fourth saw rising stars Josh Porebski and Tim Coltman from Wellington going head to head. The racing between these two was very close but in the end Coltman prevailed by winning the sail off 2-0 to take third place overall.
