2008 IRC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS – AMENDED RESULTS
Over the course of the regatta Playbuoy helmed by Roy Dickson and his crew made up of RNZYS Youth Training Programme members including coach Guy Pilkington was sailed consistently well and were announced as the winners of the event at the prize giving on the Sunday afternoon with Akatea 2nd and Shokran 3rd.
Unfortunately it was later realized that due to an oversight Playbuoy was sailing in a configuration that was in conflict with her IRC Certificate and once Roy became aware of this error he had no hesitation in withdrawing from the event. As it transpired when Playbuoy was measured and weighed for IRC certification, it was done so with its stanchions and lifelines stowed below (quite usual for a Stewart 34). However, what was not realized at the time the certificate was issued, was that in the ‘Notes’ section it states ‘Rated with lifelines’.
The IRC trophy will be awarded at the Yachting New Zealand Awards Dinner to be held on Friday November 28th at the RNZYS. With the withdrawal of Playbuoy the final results for the 2008 IRC National Championship are
1st Akatea Eoin Fehsenfeld
2nd Shokran Joe Brownlee
3rd Advantage Derek Brandt
