HANOVER National Youth Training Week

This programme was introduced in 1989 to enable young sailors from yacht clubs around New Zealand to share in the intensive sailing experience which is the RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme.  Each year New Zealand Yacht Clubs from as far north as KeriKeri and as far south as Bluff are invited to send a four person youth crew to attend the National Training Week.

TRANSPORT Each yacht club team meets at the RNZYS Clubrooms, and will travel by Bus to Sandspit then by Ferry to Kawau Island (all included in the price), on return the trainees will sail the boats back to Westhaven Maina on Saturday 15 December.

COACHING Coaching during both weeks is under the guidence of Guy Pilkington, Coach of the RNZYS LION FOUNDATION Youth Training Programme, who is assisted by other coaching staff and graduates of the LION FOUNDATION Youth Training Programme.

BOATS The 10 Elliott 6m training boats owned by the RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme are used for the training week.  These boat's are supported by two high-speed chaseboats.

Crew consist of teams of four, helm, main, trim & bow.

HOW TO APPLY Any Yacht Club may apply by simply completing the Application Form or contacting the Training Manager.

WHAT TO BRING Sleeping bag, air mattress, wet weather gear, sailing gloves & sailing footwear, warm clothes, life jacket (mandatory), drink bottle, toiletries, towel, sunblock, etc. Writing paper & pens, $2 coins (for the shower). No IPOD's, MP3 players or Discman's (you won't have time to listen to them).

ACCOMMODATION Accommodation will be provided at Lidgard House and tent(s) on the Squadron's property in Bon Accord Harbour.  Females will have separate accommodation on the property. 

There are only 6 beds in the house, so be sure to bring either an air mattress or stretcher and a sleeping bag. 

MEALS Three meals per day are provided at the Kawau Island Yacht Club or at Lidgard House.

COST $540 (including gst) per person.  Total $2160.00 (per yacht club team).

This includs transportation from the RNZYS Clubrooms to Kawau Island, all meals, boats and coaching staff.
