2021 Bridge to Bean Dinghy Race
B2B Dinghy Race 2021 – Sunday 28 February 2021
In 2021 the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, home of the America’s Cup, will reach a major milestone in turning 150 years old. To celebrate reaching this milestone, the RNZYS will be hosting an array of events on and off the water.
The ‘Bridge 2 Bean Rock’ will be a “Race” for a minimum of 150 dinghies and foiling vessels in various classes from a wide range of clubs and associations. The race will start under the Harbour Bridge proceeding to the start line off Westhaven Tower to a finish off Orakei wharf or the reverse, depending on the weather. The start will be split into various divisions dependent on entry numbers.
Prizes and trophy’s will be presented for 1-2-3 places in each division with an overall first to finish prize plus lots of spot prizes at the prize-giving held at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron following the event.
We are seeking the support and assistance of as many clubs as possible to make this event possible and showcase the foundation of New Zealand’s best sailing dinghy classes and sailors, to the world media, leading up to the America’s Cup!
We invite you to attend a meeting on 4th February 2020, 6pm, to find out more about how your club or association can get involved, we look forward to you joining us to make 2021 a year to remember! This is an event that the RNZYS wants to work with the dinghy clubs to make this event memorable.

Former dinghy sailor and now number two ranked match racer in the world, Nick Egnot-Johnson, is excited to be involved in this event – “I grew up dinghy sailing, it’s where my love and passion for sailing began. I can’t wait to get back into a dinghy for the B2B race. With a minimum of 150 boats on the start-line, it is going to be a sight to behold and I can’t wait to be involved.”

Formed in 1871 by The RNZYS was granted Royal patronage by the British Admiralty in 1902 and with it the right to fly the blue ensign. The RNZYS is the official home of the America’s Cup after Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ), representing the RNZYS, won the oldest sporting trophy in the world at the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda in 2017.
Americas Cup 36 will run from December 2020 through March 2021 where Emirates Team New Zealand will represent the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
