Member Update – 11 October 2021

 In Member Interest, News

WE ARE STILL READY TO GO!

Following today’s COVID-19 Government announcement, Auckland will continue to stay in Alert Level 3, Stage 1. Recreational boating is allowed within your household bubble, and we encourage you to get back out on the water.

As mentioned, all of the below information is subject to government, YNZ & Sport NZ updates and we have based dates on a possible move to Stage 2 of Level 3 from Wednesday 20th October and then potentially Stage 3 of Level 3 from Wednesday 27th October.

So for our planning and yours we are aiming to therefore open our retail shop/reception from the 20th October. Opening hours will be from Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30am to 4.30pm. We are also then assuming we can open the RNZYS for hospitality from the 27th October. However we do still have contactless retail available and the 150th Book will be available for pickup from Wednesday 13th October. Read more below to find out how you can get your book or purchase one if you haven’t already.

We are working to re-schedule any events that cannot go ahead under the current restrictions on the date advertised. So bear with us – things might change again yet! But we will be ready for you, so thank you for your continued support.

Get the Vaccine! – RNZYS strongly encourages all Squadron members to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The efficiency of easing lockdown restrictions will be supported by vaccination levels and we all have a role to play in ensuring the health and safety of our friends and families. The sooner we are all vaccinated, the sooner we can all get back on the water.

RNZYS continues to keep you up to date with Government advice; both with respect to the public health orders and what they mean for the RNZYS. The latest guidance can be found on the NZ COVID-19 website https://www.covid19.govt.nz

We have plenty planned for our 150th summer in 2021-22, both on and off the water. See our calendar below to find out more!

Virtual RNZYS – eSailing Club Champions
Last night we hosted the RNZYS eSailing Club Championships.

After 8 weeks of lockdown esailing, our top members battled it out for the top spot of Club Champion and to walk away with a pair Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones thanks to Panasonic New Zealand.

Congratulations to Chris Salmon for taking the win and all the participants who joined us. Let’s hope it’s not long until we can go racing again on the water!

Steering the Course – Ladies Virtual Tactics Night with Jo Aleh
12th October | 7pm
As a part of the Women’s Steering the Course festival that is going on globally this week and throughout October we plan to host a tactics night in place of our Tuesday racing next week targeting our ladies series sailors and the wider female sailing community. Guest speaker Jo Aleh has agreed to come to share some of her knowledge and report back on her recent experiences overseas coaching at the Olympics and a 2nd place at the Moth Ladies Worlds.
