Raging Hormones stole the show, claiming five bullets in the six races, on the first day of the 2018 Harken Young 88 Nationals. Zane Gifford and his Raging Hormones crew are comfortably in the lead heading into the final day of racing. Last year’s winner, Slipstream III with RNZYS skipper Mark Bond, is currently tied in second with RAYC’s Undercover skippered by Edward Massey. We had an exciting start to the second race with four boats over the line under the U flag, including our leading boat Raging Hormones. Heading into tomorrow these teams will be able to drop this score. This just goes to show how close and competitive the racing is within the Young 88 fleet.

RNZYS skipper Paul McWilliams on Mindbender is currently in fourth place only one point behind Undercover and the defending champion Slipstream III.

The race committee, led by Celia Carson, was extremely impressed with the calibre of the fleet. Celia and her team commented that they received stronger breeze than forecasted however, “the teams handled the conditions well, allowing us to complete the maximum six races scheduled for the day leaving us in good stead for starting tomorrows racing”.

Tomorrows racing will consist of up to four races. These will complete the programme and determine the winner of the 2018 Harken Young 88 Nationals Regatta.
