Kawau to Great Barrier Island Cruise

Sunday 3 – Wednesday 6 Jan 2021

The 4-day, 3-night cruise will include a combination of seasoned Great Barrier Island (Aotea) cruisers (yacht and launch members) and anyone who hasn’t been before and would like to convoy with a group. There will be a few special highlights along the way.

Great Barrier Island (Aotea) forms a natural barrier to the outer Hauraki Gulf. Great Barrier is a large island measuring approximately 285 sq. km. The main harbour on the Northern end is known as Fitzroy, it is a large natural harbour protected from all winds and with deep water throughout.

The Kawau Island to Great Barrier Island cruising fleet will leave Bon Accord Harbour on 3rd January, travelling to Great Barrier, a distance of approximately 30nm, passing Little Barrier Island along the way. Planning is underway for a variety of activities to take place over several days, whether your interest is in speculator walks, a fishing competition, learning about the Dark Sky status of the island, meeting the locals and learning more about the island, learn about the Maori history of the island including a dinner or just spending time to relax, we will have options for everyone. The final cruising itinerary will be confirmed by mid-2020.
