The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme is the programme delivering intensive sail training for young sailors in a disciplined environment.

This programme has long been regarded globally as a leader in Youth Training and is the country’s most comprehensive and advanced.

Programme Details

Criteria: Age 15 – 23 years.

Fee’s: Please contact our Coaching Staff for the current fee schedule. 2019/2020 training fee’s are $2,295.00 (NZ Dollars) which includes boats, all coaching, uniform and RNZYS Junior Membership.

Competitions: Each season the RNZYS supports youth teams to attend various fleet and match racing regatta’s both nationally and internationally.

This 11 month course is structured to help athletes excel in all areas both on and off the water.  It provides an in depth focus on advanced aspects of sailing including; racing rules, sail trim, boat maintenance, fitness, injury prevention, in addition to life skills such as goal setting and speech making.  It also reveals what is necessary to sail at the next level.  Our mission is that you finish the season a better sailor and a better person.  Upon completion of the year students will graduate or reapply for a consecutive year or years.

Calendar: The YTP begins on May 2019 and finishes in March 2020.  Training is held on the weekends starting at 9am and finishing around 5pm (4pm in Winter), for a full season calendar please contact our Coaching Staff.
