In Match Racing, News, Performance Programme

Nick Egnot-Johnson and his RNZYS Performance Programme KNOTS Racing Team are currently in 2nd place at the Youth World Match Racing Championships in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

After two two days of racing the first round robin is complete and the team from the RNZYS are sitting on eight wins out of eleven races, placing them in in 2nd behind Australian Tom Grimes.

The team had a tough first day at the regatta, losing three races and winning three, but have fought back beautifully on day two to notch up five wins and zero losses.

Speaking after day one, team member Taylor Balogh was still quite confident heading into the second day –

“We had a few calls go against us today but we’re still in good shape. The conditions were pretty tricky out there, but our crew work is really good so we feel confident heading into tomorrow.”

After a solid second day on “the pond”, Egnot-Johnson was happy to come away with a clean slate of wins to put the team in second position as they eye up the second round robin starting tomorrow

“We were sailing fast and smart today, plus we learnt from a few of the mistakes we made on day one. Really happy with how the team is working together and looking forward getting stuck into the second round robin tomorrow.”

Racing kicks off daily at 5pm NZT, and you can follow the results via the event website HERE
