November packed with Regattas and National Championships at the RNZYS

This November will see a raft of regatta’s and National Championship events hosted at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, events which anyone can still get involved in.

Events include the Women’s 50:50 Regatta, Coast NZ Etchell National Championship, MRX Masters National Keelboat Championship, Harken Young 88 National Championship / North Sails Young 88 Owners Championship, and the Barfoot & Thompson Women’s National Keelboat Championship. Entry for all events is still open, more information on all of these can be seen below:

Women’s 50:50 Regatta

November 1st 2020

Designed to encourage ladies to get on the helm. This is an open event, for members of any yacht club, the skipper/helm of each boat must be a woman. Mixed crews of 4 must have no more than two (2) males in the team, all female crews may have 4 or 5 members.

This year we have changed things up and made it a fun afternoon event beginning at 1pm and wrapping up the day with a BBQ after racing.

There are already 10 teams entered for this event, but the RNZYS welcomes more to get involved.

The Etchell fleet provides one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to enjoy true one-design racing that is fun, competitive and social. The Nationals is a tough regatta where the Etchell crews battle it out for the title of National Champion. Two days of racing followed by prize giving back at the RNZYS. Young 88 Harken Nationals & North Sails Owners Championships

20-22 November 2020

2020 will sees the Nationals combined with the Owners Champs to ensure maximum participation without over committing boats and crews during what will now hopefully be a very busy sailing period. “Owner drivers” will get two bites of the cherry and will be scored for the trophies and prizes of both events.

This year will also see a new and improved format of race types (W/L’s and harbour race back to club) and locations. Racing will be followed each day by gatherings, expert race debriefs and a party.

The event currently has 18 entries with teams from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, Ponsonby Cruising Club, Buckland’s Beach Yacht Club, Glendowie Boating Club, Wakatere Boating Club and Royal Akarana Yacht Club.
