COVID-19 Member Update – Friday 14th August 2020

Dear Members,

As I am sure you are aware, earlier this evening the New Zealand Government announced that as of 12 noon on Wednesday 12 August, Auckland will move to Alert Level 3; and the rest of New Zealand will move to Alert Level 2.

Most of you have probably seen or heard the announcement from the Prime Minister this evening by now. We will remain in Level 3 status for the next 12 days. This will once again place a huge strain on the club over the coming two weeks as I am sure it is on many of your own lives and businesses.

The RNZYS is required to remain closed to members at this stage until the 27th of August. The government will be reviewing the situation on the 21st of August, where this could be extended or reduced. We will be rescheduling as many on-and-off water events as we can over the next week and will update you on these once new dates have been set.

We will be ensuring that our facility and assets are still looked after during the level 3 lockdown period. We will also be ensuring that staff are looked after and for the most part they will be working from home where possible. We will also be looking at any government support packages available to ensure their wellbeing.

Tomorrow the kitchens will be cleared of any fresh food and on your behalf we will be donating this to the city mission food bank to help people less fortunate than ourselves.

You can find more information about what the different alert levels mean for yachting and boating clubs HERE and the Sport New Zealand website also clearly outlines the various alert level tables HERESorry to say you cannot go yachting at this stage.

We will continue to keep you updated in our ‘virtual club’ space that we became accustomed to last time we were locked down so please do keep an eye out for some at home fun over the coming 12 days.

Regards,

Ian Cook
